3-Day Sky Observation Event Started in Erzurum

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said, “In a place where some people, some front politicians who rely on the terrorist organization to gain political profit, send Kalashnikovs to the hands of children and send them to the mountains to gain power, we said 'children deserve science, not Kalashnikovs'. We handed telescopes to those children and made them do sky observations and space observations.” said.

By the ministries of Industry and Technology, Youth and Sports, Culture and Tourism, under the coordination of TÜBİTAK with the contributions of Erzurum Governorship, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, Northeast Anatolia Development Agency (KUDAKA), Atatürk University and Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), Erzurum's Konaklı Ski Center The "Erzurum Sky Observation Event", which will last for 3 days, has started on Karakaya Hill, where the Eastern Anatolia Observatory (DAG) Telescope is located.

In his speech at the opening of the event, Minister Varank said that he was happy to come together with young people who love science and their families, who are their biggest supporters, in a beautiful atmosphere.

Stating that it is a great pleasure to open with baby sounds at such an event, Varank stated that they want to direct children and youth to science, technology, future trends, space and aviation, starting from those babies.

WE WANT TO INTRODUCE THE YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILY TO SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Stating that they believe that the biggest and most important investment that can be made in the world is in people, Varank stated that they want to introduce science and technology to young people and their supporter families with events like this, and that Sky Observation Events are among the activities they get the most efficiency from.

Stating that he participated with his family in the Sky Observation Event held in Antalya when he was the first minister, Varank continued as follows:

“Watching space and the sky in that atmosphere, seeing the moon that way, seeing star clusters, seeing planets opens up one's horizons. Why do we need to explore the universe, it was an activity that explained this very well. We definitely need to increase the numbers here. When we look at the past that we will leave behind, the more children and young people in Turkey have this experience, when we say 'what have we done for this country', I said 'it will be one of the jobs that we will consider successful'. We started to increase the number. How children get excited when they see the craters on that moon, they have to experience it. That's why we started to expand this event to different cities.”

Minister Varank explained that they held the event in Erzurum in order not to miss, which is a city that can touch the clouds and the stars.

WE SAID 'CHILDREN DESERVE SCIENCE, NOT KALASHNIKOFU'

Emphasizing the importance of the events they organize, Varank said:

“In a place where some front politicians who rely on the terrorist organization to gain political profits, gave children Kalashnikovs and sent them to the mountains to gain power, we said 'children deserve science, not Kalashnikov'. We gave telescopes to those children and made them do sky observations and space observations. I wish you could experience Diyarbakir and Van. If only you had seen how our aunts and uncles came to our program with interest, not just children. In this sense, we preferred Diyarbakır and Van.”

Stating that Erzurum is an ideal place for sky observation, Varank also pointed out that Turkey's largest basic science project was carried out in Erzurum.

Reminding that Europe's largest observatory was built in the city, Varank continued as follows:

“Not only an observatory, but also an Optical Research Center is being built here, which will be used in this observatory, as well as in different fields. If we were to bring such an infrastructure in Erzurum to this city and to the scientific world of Turkey, not only to the scientists of Turkey but of the world, we had to introduce it to Turkey. We chose Erzurum especially for this. There is another reason why we chose this place. There are people who look at the cities in Anatolia with different eyes. There can be people who have different approaches to different cities.”

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO OBJECTED THE OBSERVATORY TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN ERZURUM

Minister Varank pointed out that there were those who objected to the investment when they said, "We are building Turkey's largest telescope in Erzurum, Europe's largest observatory in its field," and said, "Is this kind of work done in Erzurum?", "Such scientific activities in Erzurum?" There were those who said, 'It is snowing in Erzurum, should you observe the sky?' So we chose Erzurum to show them how to observe the sky. At the moment, we can see from the excitement in Erzurum, the interest of the city, the city's notables, the mayor, the governor, all our friends in the public sector, and all of our friends in the public sector, and that yes, very good science is done in Erzurum. Here we will realize the best example of this for 3 days.” said.

Referring to the contribution of the Eastern Anatolia Observatory to science, Varank said, “We want to reach our scientists all over the world. Rest assured, scientists from all over the world will come to this city. 'We want to use this telescope. They will say, 'Please let's do a project together. Because the telescope that we have built here is a telescope with which you can get an image as serious as the Hubble telescope with its adaptive lens system with a diameter of 4 meters, which has very serious capabilities. In this sense, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to bringing such an investment here.” used the phrases.

Minister Varank said that he believed that the young people participating in this event would make new discoveries by following the path of His Holiness İbrahim Hakkı and that they would win Nobel prizes like Aziz Sancarlar.

GRAIN CORRIDOR AGREEMENT

Regarding the grain corridor agreement signed in Istanbul, Varank made the following assessment:

“Today, signatures were signed in Istanbul, which the whole world is following with great care. What was the whole world talking about? Turkey revealed its weight. He demonstrated his power in the Black Sea. He managed to keep Russia and Ukraine at one table. By taking the United Nations with him, he succeeded in getting the signatures that the whole world expected in the grain crisis. Let's trust and trust Turkey. If we trust ourselves, if we trust our abilities, but what is so important is that we are together, if we believe in our flag and our country, there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

After the speech, Minister Varank went to the area where the observation tower is with his off-road vehicle.

In the program, the message of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop was also read.
