Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu The verdict was announced in the lawsuit filed against him on the grounds that he insulted the members of the Supreme Election Board (YSK). Imamoglu was sentenced to 2 years, 7 months and 15 days in prison.

The court also decided to deprive İmamoğlu of exercising certain rights specified in Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which includes a political ban. The final hearing of the case was held at the Anadolu Courthouse in Kartal, Istanbul.

Wide security measures were taken around the courthouse and many deputies watched the hearing.

The prosecutor demanded that İmamoğlu be sentenced to 4 years and 1 month in prison and that Article 53 of the TCK be implemented. In today's hearing, where some witnesses were heard, both the rejection of İmamoğlu's lawyers and the request for additional time for the defense were not accepted. The court board announced its decision in the evening. In order for the announced decision to become final, the processes of the appeal court and the Supreme Court must also be completed.

İmamoğlu, who did not attend the hearing, shared on his Twitter account, "Whatever the decision, I invite everyone to Saraçhane at 16.00:XNUMX in order to show our joy and our will."

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu also made a statement on Twitter: "We are waiting for our organization and Istanbulites to Saraçhane at the same time as we watch the hearing in the hall at 16.00:XNUMX."

On the other hand, Meral Akşener, Chairman of the IYI Party, said in a statement on Twitter, "I set out from Ankara, I'll see you in Saraçhane."
