Sector representatives from various cities met at the Behiç Erkin Hall for the workshop where the problems and solution proposals related to the sector were discussed and developed.

The meeting chaired by TCDD Transportation Deputy General Manager Çetin Altun, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Transportation Services Regulation Deputy General Manager Feriha Mert, Head of Freight Department Naci Özçelik, Head of Vehicle Maintenance Department Murat Durkan and Head of Information Technologies Department Şahabettin Çağlar attended the meeting. .

At the meeting, which started with the opening speeches of Naci Özçelik, Head of the Freight Department, Özçelik stated that the highest transportation level of all time was reached in 2021, and that the railway freight transportation, which was 38 million tons, is expected to be 2022 million tons in 38.5.

Naci Özçelik, Head of the Freight Department, stated that 2022 million tons of cargo was transported in 4.2 in international transportation, an increase of 4 percent compared to the previous year: “We work with 341 companies. We carry out 100 percent of our transportation with 90 companies. We are moving towards transportation with high added value. While freight transportation is still carried out in 12 logistics centers, the construction works of 3 logistics centers and the tender and project processes of 8 of them continue. As TCDD Tasimacilik, we have a total of 655 locomotives and 16 freight wagons. The private sector leased our 475 thousand 3 wagons. We carry 726 thousand tons of cargo per day. We carry out freight transport to 88 countries.” said.

Özçelik said, “Our shipments to Iran and Europe are increasing. The importance and effectiveness of the Middle Corridor is also increasing. Transportation on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line continues to increase every year. In order to meet this demand in the best way, in the ferry business between Tatvan-Van, 4 small-capacity ferries were taken out of operation and replaced with 4 ferries capable of carrying 2 tons of cargo. said.

Emphasizing that digitalization is also given importance in freight transportation, Özçelik said, “Thanks to the train planning-coordination center established within our own structure, we will share the information we provide instantaneously with our customers 13.050 hours a day from 201 loading points on a total 24 km line.” said.

Turkey's Importance Increased in International Transport with the Middle Corridor

Feriha Mert, Deputy General Director of Transport Services Regulation, at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, who took part in the workshop, said that with the Middle Corridor, which is gaining importance, Turkey's importance in international transportation has also increased.

Expressing that he considers this workshop very important to communicate the problems and solution proposals to each other in a more understandable and clear way for everyone, Mert expressed that he hopes the workshop will produce good results.

Çetin Altun, Deputy General Manager of TCDD Transportation, stated that the first workshop organized will enable the Institution and companies to get to know each other better. Altun: “As TCDD Tasimacilik, we transported more than 30 million tons of cargo last year. Beneath this number I have mentioned lies a great deal of effort on both sides. First of all, I would like to thank all my colleagues on behalf of my institution.”

Emphasizing that the railway transportation industry can be sustained under the influence of multiple and various factors, Altun said: “Our aim is to use the locomotives and wagons we have efficiently. We are working to make the best use of all our capabilities on a traditional line. I wish our 1st Logistics Industry Workshop to be beneficial for the railway transportation industry.” said.

TCDD Transportation Focuses on Digitalization in Logistics Transportation

Naci Özçelik, Head of Freight Department, in his presentation on freight transportation, introduced the Institution and gave information to companies about its fields of activity, towed vehicles, and projects that have been worked on and implemented.

Naci Özçelik stated that they have taken a very important step towards digitalization in line with the needs of the industry in recent years, and as soon as possible within the framework of this study, Customer Demand Management System (MTYS), Combined Transport Management System (KTYS), Logistics Terminal Management System (LTYS) and Logistics Terminal Planning System (LTPS) gave the good news that they will put their projects into practice.

It was emphasized that thanks to these applications, all kinds of tracking of freight trains will be made with the train tracking system, and instant intervention can be made to problems with the Planning and Coordination Center.

Private sector representatives, who appreciated the digitalization efforts, also made presentations about their companies and expressed their demands and suggestions.
