Mayor Soyer stated that they prepared a draft regarding the Cittaslow Metropol principles and started to implement them in Izmir, and said, “As a result of our work with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and our stakeholders, we have united on 6 principles that improve and slow down life in big cities. These principles will be our roadmap. We need to take into account the perspectives of other countries in order to create the calm metropolitan universal idea. We will contact and cooperate with national networks. The global epidemic and the earthquake we lived in showed us that we need to make our cities more resilient, self-sufficient and sustainable. "We produce projects for our citizens with the philosophy of a calm city and change the perspective of the city according to this philosophy."
International symposium will be held

At the symposium, we will have the opportunity to discuss Cittaslow Metropol with scientists and non-governmental organizations with different disciplines and expertise from different cities of the world and share our slow projects implemented in Izmir ”.
Noting that they will also work to spread the Cittaslow Metropolis examples in other cities of the world, Soyer said, “National networks will help in analyzing which big cities will apply the calm city philosophy in their countries. My personal opinion is to choose cities with a population of 1 to 5 million. We have prepared such a draft road map. I hope we will conclude with your ideas and contributions. At the same time, we have established an office in the Municipality that coordinates the work of Cittaslow Metropol and I look forward to working together to establish the first Cittaslow Metropol model in Izmir ”.
