Blood pressure should always be measured from the high arm. Before measuring blood pressure, the patient should urinate, sit and rest for at least 15 minutes. Substances that affect blood pressure and heart rate such as cigarettes and coffee should not be drunk until at least 2 minutes before the measurement. Measurements should be made on an empty stomach before meals and the legs should not be crossed and talked while taking measurements. If digital measurement devices are to be used, those that measure from the arm should be preferred.
