In this context, the legs of the Izmit Bay Crossing Bridge in the sea have been completed. The North and South Anchor block excavation work on the bridge has also been completed. The bridge, which will reduce the gulf crossing from 70 minutes to 6 minutes, will be the fourth largest bridge in the world with a length of 3 kilometers. The bridge is planned to be put into service in 2015. 80 percent of the work has been completed in the Samanlı and Belkahve tunnels on the route. It was stated that the entire highway will be opened to traffic in 2016.
870 MILLION SAVINGS
When the highway is completed, the distance will be shortened by 140 kilometers. Thus, 870 million TL will be saved. The suspension bridge, which will cost 9.2 billion dollars (19 billion TL), is being built by Japanese companies IHI and ITOCHU. IHI world's longest suspension bridge, which had built the bridge across the Golden Horn Akash and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges in Turkey in Japan. According to the data of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, a total of 4 thousand 579 personnel continue to work with 24 construction machines on a 85-hour basis. The project is 384 kilometers long, including 49 kilometers of highways and 433 kilometers of access roads. Within the scope of the project, there will be 31 viaducts, 2 tunnels, 199 bridges, 21 toll booths, 8 maintenance and operation centers, 7 service areas, 7 parking areas. When the project is completed, the traffic load between Gebze and Izmit will decrease by 30 percent. The bridge will join the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge built on the Bosphorus.
MAJOR DATE
Speaking to SABAH, Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Lütfi Elvan explained that the most important project that will make Yalova a center of attraction is the highway project that will connect Istanbul to Yalova, Yalova to Bursa and Bursa to İzmir. Elvan said, “I hope we will open the section between Altınova and Gemlik in the 4th or 5th month of next year. We focused our goal on this, ”he said.
HOW TO VIEW?
The starting point of the project is Gebze, and the highway to be built will pass the Izmit Bay between Dilovası and Hersek Cape, passing the 3-kilometer suspension bridge and the viaducts on both sides, and continue from Orhangazi and Gemlik and connect to the Ovaakça intersection and Bursa Ring road. The new highway will start again from the junction (Bursa - Karacabey) after the existing Bursa ring road and pass through the north of Susurluk and reach Balıkesir. Later, the motorway that turns south from the west of Balıkesir will pass near Savaştepe, Soma and Kırkağaç districts and will proceed to the west near Turgutlu, parallel to the İzmir - Uşak state road and will be connected to the Anatolian High School Junction on the İzmir Ring Road.
