The April 2024 assembly of Izmit Municipality was held. The council meeting, chaired by Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, was held in the municipal council hall. Mayor Hürriyet, who was greeted with applause upon entering the hall, greeted all members of the Assembly one by one. At the assembly meeting, 34 agenda items were discussed and decided.
Speaking at the first council meeting of the new term, Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet said, “We are starting a good period together. We thank all Izmit residents for their trust in us. We set out in 2019 with the slogan "Smile Izmit". We set out to bring hope to every corner of our city. We hope that this smile will spread further in our city. As we stated during the election period, we are the municipality of the people, not of profit.
“WE KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK”
We believe that we will make the best decisions for our city with the slogan Strong Mayor, Strong Parliament. I now include all council members in this slogan, regardless of party. I believe that he will unanimously support the services needed by our people for the benefit of the city, with feelings of solidarity and constructive opposition. In this new period, we will not give up our claim to make Izmit a more modern and livable place with your contribution. We know that we have more work to do by working hand in hand with our council members and the people of Izmit. I hope the new era will be beneficial and auspicious.
“WE ARE OPENING A NEW PAGE”
We have left 5 years in office behind. We have left behind our understanding of transparent and accountable management. We tried to serve our city fairly, without discrimination against anyone. We leave the past in the past and turn a new page to the future. Unfortunately, in the past, this place has occasionally been the scene of gatherings where the elected president of the city was denigrated and slandered. Our citizens answered this in the election. We believe that these will not happen in the new era.
“WE HAVE NO DOUBT ABOUT ANYONE'S GOOD WILL”
We promise to work hard to serve 400 thousand people of Izmit. We invite all our council members to cooperate. We may have different worldviews and understandings of politics. We believe that everyone in this parliament will use common sense. "We have no doubt about anyone's good will," he said.
