'Municipal Libraries Regional Seminar' in Nilüfer Municipality

BURSA (IGFA) – The 'Municipal Libraries Regional Seminar', hosted by Nilüfer Municipality and organized in cooperation with Hacettepe University Information and Document Management Department, Goethe Institut-Ankara Librarians Association and Günışığı Library, has started. Library officials from municipalities from more than 2 provinces, especially Istanbul-Ankara-Eskişehir, came together for the 10-day seminar that took place at Nâzım Hikmet Culture House. In the seminar, where the current state of librarianship in Turkey, projects and goals are discussed, joint work will be discussed through presentations.

Nilüfer Municipality Library Director Şafak Baba Pala, who opened the 'Municipality Libraries Regional Seminar', stated that they, as Nilüfer Municipality, were excited to host the organization. Stating that librarianship has a special place in Nilüfer Municipality, Pala said, “As Nilüfer libraries, we always cooperate closely with libraries in different provinces. Bursa is an important city. Our work will continue unabated to reveal the value of librarianship. "This event will contribute greatly to our goals and collaborations," he said.

Hacettepe University Information and Document Management Lecturer Prof. Dr. Bülent Yılmaz also explained that the regional seminars, which started with public libraries in 2006, quickly became widespread. He stated that the importance of the seminars increased with the participation of municipal libraries in the project. Bülent Yılmaz stated that the concept of sharing and collaboration has developed in the seminar and that they will carry out a productive and enjoyable work in Nilüfer.

Günışığı Kitaplığı and Editorial Director Mine Soysal also emphasized the importance of the organization. Stating that the importance given by municipalities to librarianship in recent years is satisfactory, Soysal stated that Nilüfer Municipality's librarianship services are an example for Turkey.

Ali Fuat Kartal, Chairman of the Turkish Librarians Association, also stated that the seminar contributed to change in public libraries. Stating that the seminar benefited interaction and development, Kartal said that the presentations will open horizons in terms of projects and services.

After the opening speeches, Bülent Yılmaz made a presentation on 'Professional Ethical Approaches and Practices in Library Services'.

On the first day of the seminar, representatives of the participating municipalities shared their knowledge and experience by making presentations on the topics of 'Librarianship services and activities in Nilüfer', 'Inclusive approaches for libraries', 'How to ensure children's access to information?', 'Good practice examples in municipal libraries'.

On the second day of the event, evaluation of public relations perspective, professional problems and evaluations will be discussed. 'Municipal Libraries Regional Seminar' will end with a tour of Nilüfer Libraries on the second day.
