Moscow Metro to Receive 38 New Eco-Friendly Maneuvering Locomotives

In 2022 and 2023, Moscow Metro plans to purchase 38 new shunting locomotives. At the end of 2022, a contract was signed with a Russian manufacturer for their delivery. The new locomotives will increase the efficiency and quality of metro infrastructure service and be more environmentally friendly.

The Moscow Metro could not operate at night without these new locomotives. New locomotives bring rails to the rail site and dismantle the old ones. It also helps to move complex and heavy equipment. Locomotives also have duties such as transporting vehicles and personnel. He works in the subway sections that are under construction and deals with tunnel washing works.

Modern locomotives have a spacious cabin with improved soundproofing, ergonomic controls and a climate control system. It is more environmentally friendly as it emits less harmful emissions to the environment. Another big benefit is additional space for workers on the locomotive.

Moscow's Deputy Mayor for Transport, Maksim Liksutov, stated that they will also offer the best conditions for train drivers and employees. Liksutov, we take care to renew not only the passenger train fleets, but also the service equipment fleets necessary for the smooth and safe operation of the metro. Over the next two years we will be purchasing 38 new motor vehicles from the Russian manufacturer – these will increase the efficiency of maintenance of the subway tracks and be more environmentally friendly.
