Konya Builds a Container City in Hatay

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that they started infrastructure works at the point they determined to establish a container city in Hatay, which was badly damaged by the earthquake. President Altay stated that they will establish a container city in two different regions in Hatay together with Konya Chamber of Commerce, Konya Chamber of Industry, Konya Commodity Exchange and district municipalities under the coordination of AFAD, and said, “As Konya, we are working hard to heal the wounds in the earthquake zone.”

Konya Metropolitan Municipality started infrastructure works at the point it determined to establish a container city in Hatay, which it reached right after the earthquake.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that in the disaster of the century, the municipalities, non-governmental organizations, chambers, business people and all benefactors in Konya have been with Hatay since the first day.

Noting that the Konya Metropolitan Municipality teams showed a superhuman effort on the 9th day to save the citizens who were under the rubble in the region, Mayor Altay stated that they continued their work with 721 vehicles and 2.667 personnel. Noting that on the one hand, they carried out the renewal of the collapsed infrastructure, the provision of logistics services and the coordination of the aid sent to the region, Mayor Altay said, “With all this, we have now rolled up our sleeves to contribute to the shelter needs of our earthquake victims in two different regions in Hatay. Inshallah, we will establish container cities in the region in cooperation with our Metropolitan Municipality, Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Industry, Commodity Exchange and district municipalities, under the coordination of AFAD. At the first point we determined, our KOSKİ teams quickly started infrastructure works. We hope to meet the shelter needs of our earthquake victims in these cold winter months by completing the superstructure works in a short time after the infrastructure," he said.

Underlining that they are mobilizing for Hatay as Konya, Mayor Altay said, “As Konya, we are working hard to heal the wounds in the earthquake region. I sincerely thank all our chambers and municipalities that contributed to the project. As long as we join hands with Allah's permission, there is nothing we cannot overcome.”
