Young Campers Will Meet for Water in Olivelo

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its awareness projects on the climate crisis and the importance of water. Metropolitan Municipality organizes a youth camp with the theme of “Youth Talks the Most Important Issue of the World” on 14-15-16 October at Olivelo Living Park. Applications for the three-day camp have begun.

Olivelo Living Park, which was put into service in Güzelbahçe Yelki with the aim of creating “Living Parks” where the people of İzmir will integrate with nature and forests, is the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. Applications have started for the “Youth is Talking Water” camp, which will be held on 14-15-16 October in cooperation with the General Directorate of İZSU, İzdoğa A.Ş., İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth Studies and Social Projects Branch Directorate. Young people who apply for the three-day camp will be transported to the campsite from the Historical Coal Gas Factory on October 14 at 10:30.

150 young people can participate

With the three-day awareness camp that 18 young people between the ages of 30-150 can attend, it is also aimed to bring young people together with academics and activists working on water and to have them have a fun time. On the second day of the camp, Boğaziçi University Instructor Water Management Specialist Dr. Akgün İlhan will evaluate the importance of the human right to use water, the water crisis in the world and water policies in Turkey under the title of “The Right to Water and Its Struggles”. On the third day, Edwin Clarke, Project Consultant of the Wildlife Conservation Foundation (WWF) Regenerative Agriculture and Rain Harvesting, will talk to the youth about the importance of rainwater harvesting.

Workshop, nature walk, movie screening

Participants will be able to participate in many activities during the camp. In addition to workshops on nature photography, ecological literacy and sculpture, yoga, trekking, film screenings and mini concerts will be organized so that young people can have fun and spend time with nature at the camp.
