Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that more than 1915 million vehicles passed through the 2 Çanakkale Bridge and said, “We saved 1915 million kilometers from the road and 27,8 million hours of time with the Malkara-Çanakkale Highway and the 3.6 Çanakkale Bridge.”
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, in his written statement, emphasized that they made history by investing 20 years in 100 years. Noting that they have implemented mega projects one by one, Karaismailoğlu stated that Istanbul Airport, Rize-Artvin Airport, Eurasia Tunnel, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osmangazi Bridge, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge are among these investments.
MORE THAN 2 MILLION VEHICLES PASSED THE CANAKKALE BRIDGE
Underlining that investments contribute to both production, national income and employment, as well as providing serious economic savings, Karaismailoğlu explained the effects of the Malkara-Çanakkale Highway and 18 Çanakkale Bridge, which were put into service on March 1915, on the economy. Announcing that more than 1915 million vehicles have passed through the 2 Çanakkale Bridge since the day it was opened, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “During the construction and operation period of the Malkara-Çanakkale Highway and the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge; We contributed 2.8 billion dollars to national income, 6.1 billion dollars to production and 531 million dollars to exports. While it earned 133.6 million dollars in tax revenue, its annual average impact on employment was 27 thousand people.
ANNUAL TOTAL SAVINGS OF 415 MILLION DOLLARS
Noting that 382 million dollars of time, 31,3 million dollars from fuel and 1.9 million dollars from emissions, a total of 415 million dollars were saved annually, Karaismailoğlu said, “With the project of the firsts and the greatest, we reduced the journey that took hours to 6 minutes. We saved 27,8 million kilometers and 3,6 million hours of time.”
THE PROJECT OF THE “FIRST” AND “BEST”
“The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is the seal struck in the Dardanelles and a unique monument. Karaismailoğlu, who said that our bridge is the project of the greatest, first and record, continued as follows:
“We finished our project 1.5 years ahead of schedule and presented it to our people. The bridge is 2 meters long, with a middle span of 23 thousand 770 meters and side spans of 3 meters each. Together with the 563 and 365 meter approach viaducts, the total crossing length reaches 680 meters. It went down in history as the first bridge in the world to be designed with such a long mid-span with twin decks. With a tower height of 4 meters and a cannonball figure of 608 meters for architectural purposes, it has the title of suspension bridge with the highest towers in the world, with a height of 318 meters above sea level. Our 16 Çanakkale Bridge carries many symbols that are very precious to us. The middle span of 334 thousand 1915 meters refers to 2, the 23th anniversary of our Republic. Its 100-meter steel towers mark the 2023 March 318 Çanakkale Victory. The 18-meter architectural cannonball figures are our respect and salutations to Seyit Onbaşı, who shouldered the cannonballs with superhuman strength. Red and white towers point to our red flag.”
