When the Fishing Ban in the Seas Starts

The “2021-2022 Fishing Season Ban” will start on 15 April 2022 (Friday) in all our seas for industrial fishing vessels (purse seine and trawler fishing).

The opening of the new fishing season for industrial fishing vessels will start on September 1, 2022 in all our seas except the Mediterranean, and on September 15, 2022 in the Mediterranean. Our small-scale fishermen engaged in coastal fishing are exempt from this ban and will be able to continue fishing for 12 months of the year.

During the forbidden season, there is an opportunity to easily meet the fish needs of our people during the summer season, both with fish from small-scale fishermen and with farmed fish.

Our Ministry, which also carries out the necessary inspections within the scope of preventing illegal fishing, carried out a total of 2021 thousand 193 inspections in 608, confiscated 1.061 tons of fisheries obtained through poaching, imposed administrative fines of 6 million 798 thousand liras on 27 thousand 597 people and workplaces. seized 152 ships that were not caught and transferred their ownership to the public.

Our fishermen, who want to continue their economic activities for approximately 15 months as of April 2022, 4,5, when the ban began, will be able to fish purse seine and trawler in international waters outside our territorial waters, provided that they obtain permission from our Ministry and comply with the determined rules.

Compliance with the bans imposed during the breeding and growth period of fish is important for the continuation of sustainable fishing and the future of fishermen.
