SSB President Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir made statements at the TEKNOFEST 2021 Rocket Competition on the importance of TEKNOFEST for the defense industry and on the naval weapon systems that continue to be developed.
Demir, who mentioned the importance of TEKNOFEST in terms of human and technology resources for the defense industry as well as its competition function; He mentioned that the competition is not just about throwing the rocket, but that the participants are followed and brought to the sector. As an example, he cited the fact that 20 people who participated in previous competitions are currently working at ROKETSAN.

SSB President İsmail Demir also stated that the products developed by the participants could be brought to the defense industry in terms of technology. on the subject
“Here, we can create products that can actually be used in the field, or products that can be used in the field with a little modification, not just 'rockets were built and finished'. One of our team made a UAV that came out of a rocket after the rocket reached a certain altitude. This can introduce an important concept into the field of action. Inventions that bring a new operational concept to UAVs can come from here. Our Akıncı and Aksungur UAVs will bring the experimental products presented here to be used in the field with a little more change.” found comments.
“We are working on the submarine-launched version of our ATMACA missile”
Demir said that work on naval systems continues and that the AKYA heavy class torpedo is being activated and that a version of the ATMACA anti-ship missile that can be launched from submarines is being worked on. He also mentioned that the work of Land ATMACA, which is the land-to-land version of ATMACA, continues.
Adapted for our submarines, ATMACA will offer a much longer range engagement alternative compared to torpedoes. In addition, ATMACA anti-ship missiles, which have measures to make detection difficult on their own (reduced radar cross-section, low cruise altitude…) will make it more difficult to react to an attack when launched from submarines.
It can be expected that the submarine ATMACA missile will be similar in concept to the UGM-84 Sub Harpoon anti-ship missiles. After reaching the surface from the submarine via a carrier capsule compatible with the 84 mm torpedo tubes of the submarines, the UGM-533 Harpoon starts its flight with a solid propellant rocket like the RGM-84 Harpoon and continues with its turbojet engine.
