Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its disinfection works in buses, taxis and minibuses without interruption as part of the measures to combat coronavirus. While buses are disinfected at least twice during the day and before departure, daily disinfection continues uninterruptedly at taxi and minibus stops.
Conducting a comprehensive study in the city in line with the "Crisis Municipalism" practices initiated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer in combating the coronavirus epidemic, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its disinfection works in public areas uninterruptedly. Great importance is attached to hygiene and cleanliness, especially in buses, taxis and minibuses used extensively by citizens. By the teams of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Branch Directorate, buses at the bus transfer centers are disinfected at least twice during the day and before departure in the morning. While the teams provide uninterrupted service by visiting minibus and taxi stations in their regions, taxis are regularly subjected to disinfection in front of Izmir Drivers and Tradesmen Chamber, five days a week. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Branch Directorate teams, which have completed disinfection work at 367 thousand points since last year, continue to work uninterruptedly during the complete closure process.

Stating that they aim to protect society and environmental health with products listed in the list of biocidal products licensed by the Ministry of Health in their disinfection studies, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Branch Directorate Pest Control Unit Officer Bahar Yıldırım said, “ "We are working hard, without interruption, by using wide spectrum disinfectants for the struggle."
Mobilization with 27 teams, 400 staff
Noting that they are working with 400 teams consisting of 27 people divided according to their regions, Yıldırım said:
“These teams carry out disinfection works within their areas of responsibility at points where human contact is intense. Public transportation is at the top of these. At the transfer centers of the buses, our personnel carry out disinfection studies after the passengers get off. A bus is disinfected at least twice a day. In addition, the taxi carries out disinfection work inside the vehicle after the passengers get off at the minibus stops. We have a busy schedule. As of the season, we continue both disinfection and disinfection works without interruption. Our work will continue uninterruptedly in the period of complete closure ”.

Working as a bus driver at ESHOT, Nezahat Gülcüoğlu said, “Before leaving in the morning, vehicles are washed, the interior of the bus is cleaned and disinfected. We take care of our passengers to act in accordance with mask, distance and hygiene rules in the vehicle. "We have a hand disinfection unit for our passengers to use when entering the bus."
Güzelbahçe-Fahrettin Altay Dolmuş Station manager Mustafa Kalyoncu said that they were working by taking the necessary precautions during the pandemic period and said, “Our Metropolitan Municipality regularly disinfects our vehicles. This practice is very important for both our own health and the health of our passengers, ”he said.
Police teams are also under supervision
Traffic Branch Directorate teams of the Police Department also check whether the measures taken against the coronavirus epidemic are followed in public transportation vehicles such as minibuses, taxis and shuttles. The teams, which examine the passenger density and hygiene rules in the vehicles, also check the compliance with the routine cleaning procedures. In addition to these, controls are also made against the risk of water addition into hygiene products such as disinfectants and cologne.
