3 New Intangible Cultural Heritage Nominations from Turkey to UNESCO!

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has nominated three more cultural heritage elements to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to be evaluated at the 2025th Intergovernmental Committee Meeting on Intangible Cultural Heritage to be held in 20.

Work continues with the vision of sharing the magnificent examples of Turkey's rich intangible cultural heritage with all humanity through UNESCO, explaining and promoting the tourism values ​​of intangible cultural heritage elements to the whole world by emphasizing the richness of Anatolian culture, and preserving the ancient cultural heritage of our ancestors and transferring them to future generations.

Three separate candidate files were prepared by the General Directorate of Living Heritage and Cultural Activities of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to be evaluated next year within the scope of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was signed with the aim of protecting the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, to which Turkey was a party in 2006.

In this context, "Antep Embroidery", which is made by counting and pulling threads on white fabric, "Traditional Felt Making", which is created by fusing the scales on animal fibers such as wool by friction due to temperature, humidity and pressure, and "Traditional Methods of Yogurt Making and Related Social Work". Applications” was submitted to UNESCO by Turkey to be added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

“Antep Embroidery” as a national file, “Traditional Methods of Yoghurt Making and Related Social Practices” as moderated by Turkey with the participation of Bulgaria, and “Traditional Felt Making” as a multinational file by Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, moderated by Kyrgyzstan. It was sent to the UNESCO Secretariat with the participation of Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkey.

Turkey is the second country that registers the most cultural values ​​with thirty cultural heritage items registered on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.
