Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court Became 'Official'

In the decision published in today's issue of the Official Gazette, it was stated that Basri Bağcı was elected as the Deputy President of the Constitutional Court in the election held yesterday, in accordance with the 146th article of the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey and the 6216th article of the Law No. 12 on the Establishment and Trial Procedures of the Constitutional Court.

WHO IS BASRİ BAĞCI?

He was born on 11/9/1967 in Elmadağ district of Ankara. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1988.

In 1989, he started his candidacy as a judge of the Ankara judicial judiciary. He served as public prosecutor in Sivas Gürün, Siirt Pervari, Konya Hüyük, respectively; In 1999, he was appointed as a justice inspector to the Inspection Board of the Ministry of Justice. He became chief inspector of justice in 2005. He served as deputy general director of Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, deputy general director of Penal Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice and deputy undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice. He became a member of the Supreme Court on 5/7/2017, was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court by the President on 2/4/2020, and took office on 6/4/2020.

He completed his master's degree in international human rights law at the University of Exeter, England.

He was elected as the vice president of the Constitutional Court at the meeting held on 16/4/2024 by the General Assembly of the Constitutional Court.

He speaks English and is married with three children.
