Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan.: “Child Abuse is Like a Secret Everyone Knows”

"Child Neglect and Abuse Symposium - Larva Film Screening and Interview" organized by Üsküdar University with the contributions of the Early Childhood Development Working Group was held at the Central Campus Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall.

The opening speeches of the symposium were made by Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. It was made by A. Aktuğ Ertekin.

In the program with intense participation, Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan reminded that a joint study had been carried out with the Governorship of Istanbul on this issue in 2010 and said, “This issue is a bleeding wound. It doesn't show up. It's like a secret that everyone knows. Everybody knows. “It is available in many places.” said.

Stating that this issue is known to psychiatrists and psychologists working in the field, Tarhan said, “We now apply the childhood trauma scale to every case. "We see that childhood trauma is behind many advanced-age diseases, traumas are forgotten and later emerge as diseases." he explained.

Explaining that in one case, incest trauma was behind the obesity of a girl who weighed 130 kilos, Tarhan stated that the person was seen constantly blaming herself for incest and eating constantly, saying, "I must be ugly, I must constantly eat, thinking that I do not deserve beauty."

PHYSICAL PRIVACY SHOULD BE EXPLAINED

Prof. Dr. Tarhan noted that children should be told about physical privacy within the family and said, "Neglect and abuse in childhood has a negative impact on the mental health of the society in older ages." said.

Reminding that the main thing in medicine is the protection of health, Prof. Dr. Tarhan said that there is a medical understanding for the treatment of the disease, and the important thing is to protect health.

Pointing out child health and development, Prof. Dr. Tarhan noted that the child born with his own identity creates his own identity by interacting with his parents and other objects as he grows up.

Prof. also emphasized the importance of taking care of children. Dr. Tarhan stated that the lives of the children who were adopted in the past continued normally.

Stating that a person who works only for himself is evil, Tarhan also emphasized the importance of contributing to society.

Within the scope of the opening speeches, Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. A. Aktuğ Ertekin pointed out that child neglect and abuse has existed in all kinds of societies since the past and said, “There is no concept that it is seen less in developed societies. "We should not say 'It won't happen to my child'." said.

Pointing out that the most important issue regarding child neglect and abuse is awareness, Ertekin said, “Education comes first among the solution suggestions. Abuse used to be physical, emotional and sexual abuse. "Now economic and digital exploitation has been added to this." he said.

Stating that the World Health Organization (WHO) says that 4 in every 1 people was abused in childhood, Ertekin said that the World Health Organization (WHO) says that every 5 adults in women and 13 in every 15 adults in the world were sexually abused as a child. He explained that more than 40 thousand children under the age of XNUMX die every year due to neglect and abuse.
