The construction of Sancak Athlete Selection and Training Center, which is one of the biggest investments of Selçuklu Municipality, which always prioritizes investment in sports and youth, continues rapidly. When the facility, 25% of which has been completed so far, comes into service, it will open the door to success in the Olympics by providing a very important infrastructure resource to the sports community.
Emphasizing that, as Selçuklu Municipality, they have quickly built an important investment that will contribute to both the country and the city, Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırcı said: “We continue to invest in our youth and children, who are our future. Our construction work continues uninterruptedly at the Athlete Selection and Training Center, which was designed within this framework and will be Konya's first and one of the most comprehensive sports facilities in Turkey. This important sports investment will provide our young people with the opportunity to do sports in a total of 18 different sports branches at the same time. At least 1 to 200 athletes will be able to benefit from our center in one day. On this path we set out with the Olympic goal, our wish is to increase interest in sports, to ensure that more young people and children do sports, and to discover our talents thanks to the measurement and evaluation programs we will implement. Hopefully, this center will contribute to the sports infrastructure of our country and will lead to many successful athletes and even many Olympic champions coming from here, and the success of our athletes will make us proud. While thinking about sports and our youth, we also pay attention to producing facilities that are sensitive to the environment and nature. For this reason, our facility will allow our young people to discover their talents and will be Turkey's first Green Certified (LEED) Athlete Training Center. What does the Athlete Selection and Training Center include:
The Athlete Selection and Training Center, which has a building area of 23 thousand 514 square meters and an open field area of 15 thousand 630 square meters, has 25 swimming pools of 35 meters by 25 meters and 12,5 meters by 2 meters, an indoor sports hall for handball, karate, judo, Gyms suitable for gymnastics, table tennis, wrestling, chess, taekwondo, wushu, kickboxing and archery, fitness center, football field in accordance with FIFA standards, athletics track in accordance with World Athletics Association standards, sports museum, sports store, seminar hall, VIP room, There will be a cafeteria, administrative units and other areas of need. 150 students will be able to receive swimming training at the same time in the facility's pools. In other halls, at least 20 athletes will be able to carry out training activities, 200 athletes in each at the same time, depending on the training duration. In the athletics field, 150 athletes will be able to easily perform activities at the same time.
