Alstom to Provide New Trains for Santo Domingo Metro

Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a new contract with the Transport Reorder Office (OPRET) for the production, supply and commissioning of eight (3) new Metropolis family trains consisting of three (8) vehicles, each of the 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro. It will serve on the line. The new contract, financed entirely by a loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), represents another milestone of Alstom's presence in the Dominican Republic and the company's commitment to improving mobility in the country where it leads innovation. Transportation solutions that enable safer, more efficient and sustainable transportation.

Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro covers an area of ​​7,3 kilometers and includes the construction of five stations that will be part of the integrated transportation system Metro – Teleférico de Santo Domingo; The new station extends from the María Montez station on Luperón Boulevard to Los Alcarrizos, with a 900-meter-long underground section and another 6,45 kilometers high. This extension will improve the quality of life of residents in neighboring sectors as it will facilitate the flow of approximately 22.850 vehicles passing through the Duarte highway on working days.

The new trains will be produced at the Alstom industrial facility in Santa Perpetua, Barcelona, ​​and will be able to operate in multiple units, that is, in conjunction with each other or with other trains in the fleet operating today in the Santo Domingo Metro. System that provides greater flexibility to adapt capacity to passenger demand.

The Metropolis trains delivered by Alstom for OPRET offer accessibility advantages such as the width of the doors, wide and continuous corridors for optimum passenger flow; Likewise, they feature technological advances to improve passengers' travel experience, optimize operations and increase usability, including LED lighting in the passenger area and improvements to the passenger information and alert system. Likewise, these trains will have a new driving desk design and the latest generation DDU (Display Driver Uninstalle) that will be integrated with other elements of the cabin.

Alstom has been operating in the Dominican Republic since 2009 and contributes to the consolidation and growth of the Santo Domingo Metro, both in terms of the supply of rolling stock and fleet maintenance.
