He Gifted an Exact Print of the Historical Letter to His German Counterpart

President Erdoğan and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Steinmeier met at the Presidential Complex.

During the meeting, President Erdoğan thanked Steinmeier for the "German to Turkish Dictionary Book" written by Ömer Faik and published by Matbaa-i Osmaniye in Istanbul in 1898, and the medals given to him by the German Emperor Wilhelm I. He gave as a gift an exact copy of the letter he sent to Sultan Abdulhamid II in 1, expressing his satisfaction and his wish for the continuation of friendly relations between the two countries.

According to the news from the Directorate of Communications, the following statements were included in the letter sent by German Emperor Wilhelm I to Sultan Abdulhamid II:

“Your dear, powerful and sincere friend, I received your gracious letter from Said Pasha, stating that this time, as a sign of friendly relations, you have been presented with the gold and silver medals of the Supreme Privilege. I would like to express my gratitude to your great person for condescending to show me compliments with high aims this time and for conveying these signs of friendship in the best way through the mentioned ambassador. In addition to returning my feelings of deep love and heartfelt friendship to your great person, I express my wish and prayer that your life, your fortune, your happiness and the power of the Ottoman sultanate will continue forever. I declare that I sincerely wish to strengthen the ongoing bonds of friendship between the Sublime Porte and the State of Germany.

In addition to offering you my most sincere assurances of love and friendship to the majestic Sultan, I pray to God Almighty to protect your existence with his help.”
