Offshore Wind Energy is Getting Stronger with the Cooperation of TÜREB and DEHUKAM!

'Cooperation Protocol in the Field of Offshore Wind Energy Legislation Studies' was signed between the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) and Ankara University National Research Center for Maritime Law (DEHUKAM).

TÜREB President İbrahim Erden, DEHUKAM Board Chairman Süleyman Önel, DEHUKAM Board Member Prof. attended the signing ceremony held at DEHUKAM's headquarters in Ankara on April 3. Dr. İsmail Demir, DEHUKAM Manager Mustafa Başkara, TÜREB Vice President of Offshore Wind Energy Ufuk Yaman and senior representatives of both institutions attended.

A cooperation protocol was signed between TÜREB, the umbrella organization of the Turkish wind industry, and DEHUKAM, one of the leading expert institutions of our country in the fields of maritime law and policy. With the protocol signed by TÜREB President İbrahim Erden, DEHUKAM Board Chairman Süleyman Önel and DEHUKAM Manager Mustafa Başkara, both institutions will exchange information in the legislative and legal fields in the context of offshore wind energy studies and various joint project studies will be carried out.

TÜREB President İbrahim Erden said the following about the protocol they created with the aim of making the regulations that the sector will need in the field of offshore wind energy in the most efficient way: “TÜREB was established 32 years ago with the decision of the Council of Ministers to increase wind-related investments in Turkey, develop human resources and provide knowledge in this field. was established for the purpose of Of course, at that time, there were no commercial offshore applications around the world yet. Even in Denmark, the first commercial facilities began to be built in the early 2000s, and offshore investments continue to increase, especially after 2010. In parallel with the announcement of the 'Turkey National Energy Plan', which includes offshore wind energy targets within the scope of our country's long and medium-term strategic energy planning, in January 2023, we, as TÜREB, started our intensive work in this field. As you know, we have a 2035 GW offshore wind power plant target in 5. In line with this goal, we need to cooperate with our stakeholders in order to create a healthy regulatory infrastructure in the field of offshore wind in Turkey, develop a strong ecosystem and provide knowledge. In this respect, DEHUKAM is a very valuable institution and stakeholder that includes critical units of our state and the academy in the field of maritime law and politics. Therefore, as TÜREB, we attach great importance to the protocol we signed with DEHUKAM today. We believe that thanks to this and similar collaborations, national and international cooperation opportunities in this field will expand, knowledge will increase, and thus investments and industry will develop; We would like to take this opportunity to thank the DEHUKAM management for the beginning of the cooperation.”

Underlining that DEHUKAM is an institution that works especially in the field of maritime law and focuses on training researchers, DEHUKAM Chairman Süleyman Önel said, “TÜREB already has a strong sectoral reach and relevant research infrastructure due to its founding purpose. We support the work of this union, which was established years ago thanks to the vision of our Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the private sector and the academy, in the offshore field. As DEHUKAM, we want to be everywhere the sea touches. TÜREB Management also contacted us for this purpose. As DEHUKAM management, we aim to work in unity and solidarity by exchanging information between both institutions in the field of offshore wind, with the idea that cooperation and joint work will benefit our country and our goals in the field of offshore wind. "With the protocol, we aim to carry out studies that will efficiently meet our country's needs in this field by supporting TÜREB in training issues regarding the legal infrastructure in offshore wind energy activities," he said.
