Scientific Literacy Is Increasing in China

Scientific literacy is increasing in China, according to a study by the China Association of Science and Technology. The 13th China Scientific Literacy Survey, conducted this year, showed that the proportion of citizens with scientific literacy will increase dramatically, reaching 2023 percent in 14,14. This phenomenon reflects a rapid upward trend compared to 2022, representing an increase of 1,21 percent.

The data of the said research reveal a promising picture and underline the development of scientific literacy on a national scale. It is determined that the differences between the eastern, central and western regions of the country are closing for the first time. Women appear to have made impressive progress in this field, with rapidly rising levels of scientific literacy, and are contributing to narrowing the gender gap.

In addition to these developments, the scientific literacy of citizens living in rural areas is progressing faster than that of those living in urban areas, leading to a decrease in urban-rural disproportion.

China, on the other hand, sees a scientific literacy of 10 percent as the lower threshold for a nation's innovative scientific and technological workforce. This threshold was exceeded in China in 10,56 with 2020 percent. In this respect, the leap is particularly striking in 2023 and forms a solid basis for China, as a giant developing country, to become one of the innovative countries. However, China still has a long way to go to increase scientific literacy to 20-30 percent.
