Local and National Party Chairman Teoman Mutlu reacted harshly to Mardin Metropolitan Municipality's decision on the National Anthem.
Stating that the decision in question was rejected by the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and the DEM Party group on the grounds that there was no such item on the agenda, Chairman Mutlu said, “The National Anthem is the symbol of our nation's struggle and determination for independence. "Any disrespect towards this anthem is a direct attack on the values of our nation and the spirit of independence of the Republic of Turkey," he said.
“To be disturbed by our national anthem means to be disturbed by the Republic of Turkey,” said Mutlu, adding: “This is an unacceptable situation and should be rejected by our entire nation. This attitude of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality and relevant council members is against our spirit of national unity and solidarity. As a Local and National Party, we will continue our determined struggle to protect and defend our national values. "We will continue to work with all our strength to ensure that our national anthem is read with pride on every platform," he said.
