Pointing out that the last few months were full of difficult moments, President Tugay said, “Especially after the May general elections, there were widespread thoughts of sadness that there was no possibility of things getting better in our country. The March 31 local elections were an election that came after those months when people were hopeless. We fought hard. We listened to our people. By listening to what the people expect from us, we tried to embrace them and express that we are together with them in feelings, thoughts and goals. We are very happy. "More importantly, we are very hopeful about the future," he said.
Referring to the words of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Tugay said:
“Our Chairman Özgür Özel said that the voters extended credit to us. They want us to work hard, make no mistakes and do the right things in the coming period. I would like to express that I am aware of this every moment. I want you to know that we always remind this with our friends. We are aware of our responsibilities. We are aware of what is expected from us. We are aware of the troubles and serious problems our country is facing. We will be with them among our people. The problem is we'll be almost there. We will do whatever we have to do to find a solution. "Keep your faith in us," he said.

Underlining that loving a country and protecting its democracy is not only done by fulfilling the duty of voting in elections, President Dr. Cemil Tugay said, “We will fight this democratic struggle together. I would like to thank our friends working in both the Metropolitan Municipality and district municipalities for the important work they have done so far. Our responsibility is greater. I would like to state that we will work even harder. We are proud of our Republic, our party, and Izmir. Young people trusted us the most. They wanted to show that they had a future in this country. We also work to provide a good future for young people. Reminding that today, April 6, is the Day of Murdered Journalists, Tugay said, “On this occasion, greetings to all murdered journalists, especially Uğur Mumcu. Those struggles were not in vain. We have the flag today. We will continue to wage this struggle. Our nation is great. Our country is big. "Our history will be glorious and our future will be bright," he said.
After the ceremony in Cumhuriyet Square, President Tugay walked with the band and came to the Sovereignty House in Konak. “I have always engaged in local politics with the idea that Turkey will transform locally, through cities, and with this belief. Without escaping the comfort of populism, I tried to do my best by working hard for 10 years in Seferihisar and 5 years in Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. I worked hard to one day see the picture of that transformation that I believed in. Finally, on the evening of March 31, I saw that painting in which most of Turkey was painted red, which was the first step of local transformation. We saw it as a country and celebrated it with great happiness. "We have strengthened the power of our Republic, where sovereignty once again belongs solely and exclusively to the nation."
“WE ALL NEED TO WORK HARD”
Stating that he had one of the most special days of his life, Tugay said:
“This is the first day of taking on a very important responsibility. Fortunately, we are not alone, we are all together. We had good success in the election across the country. There are architects of this success. There are millions of people who have worked hard for this success. Congratulations on this success to each of them. We are at the beginning of a very important responsibility. We all need to work hard. I would like to thank the CHP organization, all our party members, starting from our deputy chairmen, deputies, provincial administration, and all our friends within the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality who supported us wholeheartedly. We are just part of a whole. We are in these positions only to fulfill the duty expected from us as a part of a whole. We are in these positions temporarily. For me, Izmir is the most beautiful and special city in the world. We had the opportunity to serve this city. No one should doubt that I will make the most of this opportunity. We will pay our debt to CHP, our city, and Atatürk. I would like to thank my dear president very much. Over the past 5 years, he has served our city day and night. I know many of your efforts that have not been mentioned here. These are things that I will always remember with gratitude. Addressing the citizens waiting for him in front of the Sovereignty building after the handover ceremony, Cemil Tugay said,
“I want to produce urgent solutions to the problems of our people. That's why we will produce great services with our municipality employees. It will be a very good period for Izmir. Izmir is not a place where we come from outside and serve. This is our home. This is our home. "I want you to do this job wholeheartedly," he said.
