People of Izmir Met at the Kite Festival

The joy of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day was experienced in Bornova at the Traditional Kite Festival organized by Bornova Municipality.

The Kite Festival, which started with a cortege march in which Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki participated with his wife Beste Eşki and his daughter Asya Tuna, brought together not only Bornova residents but also thousands of citizens from all over Izmir at Aşık Veysel Recreation Area.

As part of the festival, kites were distributed to children and nostalgic and fun foods such as paste and cotton candy were offered. Face painting activities were also held in the area where clowns entertained the little ones. Workshops were established, basketball, penalty and dart competitions were organized.

Addressing the citizens at the festival area, Mayor Ömer Eşki said, “Happy April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day. Today is a very beautiful holiday that our Atatürk gifted to our children with the establishment of our parliament. We wanted to make this holiday even more beautiful. The most beautiful thing in the world is to see children's faces always smiling. Unfortunately, very bad things are happening around us, especially in Palestine, but our country has been an island of peace for a century thanks to the struggle of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms. "In this sense, I commemorate the Great Atatürk, who gave us this beautiful country, and our martyrs and veterans with respect and gratitude," he said.
