Reminding that Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry recently moved from its old building with an area of 11 thousand 900 square meters to its new building with a closed area of 39 thousand square meters, Ünüvar said, “This place has become not only physically large, but also where highly qualified dental services can be provided. For example, dental treatment of disabled individuals and especially disabled children is extremely difficult. They need to be done under general anesthesia. "This place has become one of our leading faculties providing the best dentistry services to disabled individuals," he said.
Stating that they are together today to open two important units, Ünüvar said, “We are the first dentistry hospital and the first dentistry faculty in Europe and even in the world to have an MRI unit. Here, MRI services in different areas, especially in the head and neck region, can be provided at our Faculty of Medicine when necessary, due to its qualifications. "With this, we will also take away some of the intense workload of our faculty of medicine as dentistry," he said.
Ünüvar underlined that thus, faculties and academicians will have the opportunity to provide more qualified services by getting support from each other and to provide more qualified education services, and said, “We see that this is a unit that will serve not only our Faculty of Dentistry, but also our Faculty of Medicine and therefore the people under its responsibility. We are proud of this too. We are opening the first MRI unit in a faculty of dentistry in the world. “Good luck,” he said.
THE FIRST MR UNIT IN THE WORLD IN THE FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
Ünüvar noted that another sedation unit that was opened was the first among dentistry faculties in Turkey. Ünüvar pointed out that it is a very important unit prepared especially for individuals with special needs, who require special dental services, and individuals who require sedation, and said, "I hope it will lead to good services."
Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Kaan Orhan stated that they are proud to have the first MRI unit established within the faculties of dentistry and noted that the MRI unit will also support the Faculty of Medicine.
Giving information about the sedation unit where dental treatment services will be provided to individuals with special needs, Orhan continued as follows:
“These sedation units are very important to us. This will be a first in Ankara and even in Turkey. We could only perform tooth extraction, especially for our children who need special treatment, but now we will be able to perform root canal treatment, fillings and even aesthetic bridges as if they were normal patients. There is currently no dentistry faculty with this infrastructure. For this reason, as Ankara University, we will expand this in the future and offer this service to our children and adults who need special treatment.”
Following the speeches, the opening ribbons of the units were cut by the rector, vice rectors, deans, institute and vocational school directors. Participants who visited the units were informed by the dean. Those who attended the opening then had iftar together.
