“Dara Ancient City is an Important Place in Terms of World History”

Various programs are organized in Mardin within the scope of the 15th Tourism Week, celebrated between 22-48 April.

The program, held at the Ataturk Cultural Center, started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem.

Mardin Artuklu University Rector Prof. Dr. After the opening speeches made by İbrahim Özcoşar, Mardin Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hatip Çelik, DİKA Secretary General Aykut Aniç and Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Aydın Gök, Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun addressed the hall.

Governor Akkoyun, who started his speech by touching on the importance of the Tourism Workshop for Mardin, explained the tourism richness of the city.

“HOUSES OF WORSHIP OF DIFFERENT BELIEFS ARE IN THE SAME PHOTO FRAME”

Evaluating the current tourism richness of Mardin and noting that the most important providers of this are culture and faith-based accumulations, Governor Akkoyun said that the most valuable gain that these riches provide to the city is the diversity in social, architectural and cultural areas.

Akkoyun said:

“The fact that places of worship belonging to different beliefs can be included in the same photograph at very close distances from each other is just one of the most characteristic examples of this. The presence of different beliefs, different languages and different ethnic groups in this city; It is one of the most exceptional examples in our history of cultural richness, social harmony and an exemplary environment of tolerance. Mardin, which carries traces from dozens of civilizations with its hundreds of years of experience and is the apple of Mesopotamia's eye in this respect, is virtually an open-air museum. With ongoing studies, artifacts belonging to this ancient city continue to be unearthed and brought into tourism. "Our Mardin, which hosts thousands of local and foreign tourists every year, hosted around 2023 million tourists, including approximately 650 thousand for accommodation, in 2."

“PRESIDENTIAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA IS COMING TO MARDIN FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE ANCIENT CITY OF DARA”

In his speech, Governor Tuncay Akkoyun touched upon the importance of Mardin's historical places in terms of the history of the city, the region and the world; "We have invited the Presidential Symphony Orchestra to Mardin on September 27 in order to ensure the national and international recognition of the Ancient City of Dara, which has an important place not only for Mardin but also for the history of the whole world," he said.

Governor Akkoyun stated that their applications to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had positive results and said:

” Dara Ancient City and Boncuklu Tarla received support within the scope of the "Heritage to the Future Project". With this result, I would like to give the good news that new comprehensive excavations, which have been waiting for a long time, will begin in these destinations, which will provide approximately 4 Million TL support in 100 years. While our country has developed and grown rapidly in the last 15-20 years under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our Mardin has also received its share from this growth and development. The contributions of the environment of trust and stability established in this process to Mardin were most evident in the tourism sector. “48. When we look back today, when we gathered to talk about Mardin tourism on the axis of culture and belief, on the occasion of "Tourism Week", it is a very important development that the ancient city of Mardin has become in a position to host such a workshop. Today, our Mardin has become a city of trust and peace, thanks to the determined will of our state. The city, which has an atmosphere of trust, has been able to bring to light the richness of culture and belief accumulated over thousands of years. I find this meeting very meaningful in this respect. We will continue to contribute to Mardin's vision of becoming a brand city in tourism by maintaining the existing harmony and cooperation with local and national sector representatives, as we have done so far. For this purpose, we act with the awareness of offering new destinations and alternative routes to local and foreign visitors with a sustainable tourism model.”
