3 Million Decare Increase in Agricultural Areas in the Last 4,7 Years!

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that as a result of the policies, supports and projects carried out for plant production, the increase in cultivated agricultural areas has reached 3 million decares in the last 4,7 years.

Minister Yumaklı stated that they continue to work to efficiently manage and protect the land and prevent the fragmentation of agricultural lands, and that uncultivated lands were brought into agriculture with the projects and practices they carried out in 81 provinces.

Reminding that the agricultural production areas figures for 2023 were published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Yumaklı underlined that there was an increase of 2023 thousand decares in the total cultivated area in 970 compared to the previous year. Yumaklı gave the following information:

“The total cultivated area has increased by 3 million decares, continuing to increase in the last 4,7 years. Thus, the total processed area, which was 2021 million decares in 234,7, reached 2022 million decares in 238,4 and 2023 million decares in 239,4.

Especially with the contributions of the TAKE Project aimed at narrowing fallow areas, fallow areas across the country decreased by 29,6 million decares, from 28,1 million decares to 1,46 million decares. As a result, our field crop cultivation areas increased by 164,9 million decares, from 167,1 million decares to 2,24 million decares.”

“WE WILL CONTINUE TO ADD STRENGTH TO OUR PLANT PRODUCTION”

Minister Yumaklı emphasized that the supports provided for strategic products in plant production and the Enabling the Use of Agricultural Lands (TAKE) Project implemented in 81 provinces were also effective in this increase, and said, "First of all, studies on improving the production of plants on lands that are not cultivated, left fallow or unsuitable for cultivated agriculture and fallow lands are also effective." The areas were reduced and brought into production. As a result, there was an increase in the area planted with field crops. “We will continue to strengthen the power of our plant production and stand by the producers.” made his assessment.
