118 Films from 509 Countries Applied for the 'Sky Temple Award'

The 14th Beijing International Film Festival opened in Beijing on April 18. The jury, chaired by Serbian director Emir Kusturica, took part in the opening ceremony. This year, a total of 118 films from 509 countries and regions applied to the competition, and among these applications, 15 films were selected for the Tiantan Award (Sky Temple). Brazil was invited to the festival as this year's guest of honor, as 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. Four Brazilian films were selected for the festival.

During the 9-day event, more than 27 local and foreign films will be screened in 250 cinemas in Beijing as well as neighboring Tianjin Municipality and Hebei Province. The festival, launched in 2011, aims to increase interaction between global film industry players. Beijing Film Festival also attracts great attention in China, which has become a world leader in terms of both production and box office in recent years.
