Metropolitan Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, who works day and night for Balıkesir and brightens the face of the city in the 5-year period, is implementing a historical project. Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, who prepared the project that will be considered a milestone for the region, is initiating the 'Balıkesir City Square Arrangement for Protection Purposes'. Balıkesir people have been dreaming about for decades; The region, which includes the public transport center, the Army Houses, the municipality building, Sheikh Lütfullah Mosque and its surroundings, will reveal the historical silhouette of the city and will also be open to the use of citizens with modern, qualified, comfortable and functional areas. The protocol for transforming Balıkesir Army Houses into a museum and art center, which is the most important step within the scope of "Balıkesir City Square Arrangement for Protection Purposes"; It was signed by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yücel Yılmaz and officials from the Ministry of National Defense, with the approval of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Making a statement on the subject, Mayor Yücel Yılmaz stated that they signed a very important and historical protocol for Balıkesir and said, "The 2 registered buildings you see behind me between Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of National Defense will now begin to serve the city under the responsibility of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality. All our officers and petty officers, especially the Onhann Hotel, will temporarily receive service here, instead of the facilities serving as army camps. Then our Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality; We will build a high quality, in accordance with current conditions, Army House for our soldiers and their relatives, on a turnkey basis. Our aim; to expand and refresh the Republic Square here. We will quickly demolish the locally used and unregistered building right behind the army camp. "We will demolish the building used as Karesi and Altıeylül Municipality belonging to Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, restore it to its historical appearance and open the square." said.

Emphasizing that they will complete the work in a very short time, Mayor Yücel Yılmaz said, “In this way, we will restore Balıkesir to its historical silhouette and our city will gain two valuable works. The historical building where Atatürk came from the station and stayed (Officer's Army Lodge) will become the Atatürk and Kuvayı Milliye Museum. The building, which is the Petty Officer Army House, will serve our city as an art gallery and culture house. I feel proud on behalf of my fellow citizens to have signed both of them. This was a prospect the city had desired for decades. So we did this. Our two historical buildings will continue to serve Balıkesir in their new form in a very short time. We would like to thank our President and our Minister of National Defense for this historic signature. They personally took a close interest in the issue.
