After the break in education due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, the "earthquake psychoeducation program" will be applied to students at all levels in 71 provinces, who will start the lesson today, except for the earthquake zone.

After the first semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, which started on September 12, 2022 and ended on January 20, schools would open on February 6. However, due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, which affected many provinces in the region, education activities were suspended until February 20.

Students from all levels in 71 provinces, except for the provinces affected by the earthquake, will start the lesson today.

Plans are being made to start education and training in the provinces affected by the earthquake as of March 1, as activities for aid and shelter are carried out and damage assessment is expected to be completed by the end of February.

As a result of the determinations made in these provinces, education activities will be started in the schools deemed suitable according to the decisions to be made on the basis of provinces, districts and schools. Necessary measures will be taken by the relevant governorships in this direction.

Students studying in the disaster area will be exempted from the provisions regarding absenteeism in the second semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. In addition, students transferred from 10 provinces where the earthquake took place to other provinces will also be exempted from the provisions regarding absenteeism.

In addition, secondary and high school students in the provinces where the State of Emergency (OHAL) was declared due to the earthquake can be placed directly in school hostels across the country as free boarding, if they wish.

Editing in YKS and LGS

Due to the earthquakes, decisions were taken regarding the YKS and LGS exams. Students who will take the central exam within the scope of the High School Entrance System (LGS) to be held this year, students who will attend the 8 Higher Education Institutions Exam (2023-YKS), which will be taught until the end of the first semester, will take the 2023th grade exams in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades. He will be responsible for the subjects, achievements and explanations of all the exam-based courses of the 12th grades and the exam-based courses of the XNUMXth grade until the end of the first semester.

Psychosocial support studies begin in schools

It has prepared a Psychosocial Support Action Plan to be implemented in the disaster area provinces and other provinces not directly affected by the disaster.

With the plan, all processes regarding the psychosocial support activities to be carried out for all students, teachers and parents, especially in the provinces directly affected by the earthquake, were phased out.

The documents to be used in the studies to be carried out were published at the address “orgm.meb.gov.tr”.

Within the scope of the Psychosocial Support Action Plan, the psychological first aid program (PIY) started to be implemented for students, teachers and families in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake by the psychosocial support teams consisting of guidance teachers and psychological counselors appointed by the Ministry of National Education. These works will continue until March 1, 2023.

In addition, PFA studies for students, parents, teachers and other individuals transferred from earthquake zone provinces and resettled to other provinces, initiated by provincial and district psychosocial support teams during the time the schools are closed, continue.

On February 16-17, 2023, distance information meetings were held by the guidance and research centers to the guidance teachers and psychological counselors in their regions of responsibility about the “Earthquake and Mourning Psychoeducation Programs” and the teacher-parent sessions.

The "Earthquake-Teacher Session" of the second phase studies included in the Action Plan will be applied to the teachers tomorrow, and the "Earthquake-Parent Session" will be applied to the parents by the guidance teachers and psychological counselors between February 21-22, 2023. In the sessions, there are content consisting of themes such as anxiety and stress awareness and positive coping with them.

After the earthquake, the "earthquake psychoeducation program" will be applied to students at all levels in 71 provinces, who will start the lesson tomorrow.

The program consists of modules on recognizing emotions, coping with emotions, security, instilling hope, self-esteem, social relations, and seeking help.

Following these studies, guidance teachers and psychological counselors will conduct studies on students affected by the earthquake, and "Information Sessions for Lost and Grief-Families and Teachers" will be held in order to inform teachers and families.

In addition, “Psychosocial Support Psychoeducation Program-YAS” will be implemented by guidance teachers and psychological counselors for students who are determined to be highly affected by the disaster.

In schools where there is no guidance teacher and psychological counselor, the practices will be carried out under the coordination of the guidance and research center.
