23 thousand 740 packages of electronic cigarette tobacco were seized during the operations carried out by the Ministry of Commerce Customs Enforcement teams at Mersin Port, Adana Şakirpaşa Airport and Taşucu Port.
According to the statement made by the Ministry, smuggled tobacco operations were carried out at Mersin Port, Adana Şakirpaşa Airport and Taşucu Port on the same day by the teams of Mersin Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate.
As a result of the risk analysis and targeting studies of the Customs Enforcement teams, smuggling was not allowed as a result of the searches made for trucks, passenger cars and passengers that were determined to be risky.
In the first operation, it was observed that there was a suspicious density in the trailer of the vehicle after the truck that came to Mersin Port from the TRNC empty, was followed closely within the scope of the risk criteria and was x-rayed. Upon this, the teams, who carried out a detailed search, seized 16 packages of electronic cigarette tobacco, which they had detected in the suspicious area and stashed in a special device.
In another operation, as a result of the x-ray control of the belongings of a person who came to Adana Şakirpaşa Airport from Beirut and was considered suspicious, an unusual density was detected in the luggage of the person. Thereupon, 6 packs of electronic cigarette tobacco were caught in the search made in the suitcases of the person.
In the last operation carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams, a detailed search of the passenger vehicle, which arrived at Mersin Taşucu Port by ship and was sent for x-ray scanning for control purposes, detected suspicious densities, and a detailed search of 240 electronic cigarette tobaccos, hidden in various parts of the vehicle.
While the seized electronic cigarette tobaccos were confiscated by the teams, the value of the seized contraband was determined to be 2 million 780 thousand Turkish Liras.
