$1 billion thank you letter to union members

Muhammet Öztürk, Chairman of the Board of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds Exporters Association, stated that Aegean cereals, pulses, oilseeds exporters increased their exports from 2022 million dollars to over 47 billion dollars in 682 with an increase of 1 percent, and that they are the 1th exporter union that exceeded the 6 billion dollars threshold under the roof of Aegean Exporters' Associations. He said they have succeeded.

Food demand is increasing in the world, our exports will increase

Pointing out that the world population is based on 8 billion and it is expected to reach 2030 billion in 8, Öztürk said, “We are losing agricultural lands in the world, global climate change negatively affects production. According to the data of the World Food Organization, if we continue to consume at this rate as humanity, we need 5 worlds. We haven't found a planet where we can live outside of Earth yet. In these conditions, we need to create a ground where we can get more and healthier products from a unit area by preserving the balance of nature and our arable lands, preventing losses in food production, and concentrating on Research and Development studies. If we take the right steps, the demand for food is already increasing in the world, there is no reason why we should not increase our exports. We believe that we can export 1 billion dollars from the Aegean Region in 7”.

Anatolian and Mesopotamian lands have the power to heal their wounds in a short time.

TURQUALITY Project brought success in the US market

Reminding that Aegean Exporters' Associations are in the leading position in Turkey's food exports, Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters' Association President Muhammet Öztürk said, “In order to maintain our leadership, together with our 6 Food Associations within the EİB, fairs, sectoral trade delegations, purchasing committees, URGE and TURQUALITY projects we continue. We have accomplished very successful works with our Turkish Tastes Turquality project, which we carried out with the support of the Ministry of Commerce in the US market. In the food products we introduced in our project, we increased our exports to the USA from 4 million dollars to over 700 billion dollars in a 1-year period. This success has been the driving force of the projects we have carried out. In 2023, we are starting the URGE Project for our members to cluster together and increase their institutionalization and export competencies.”

Exports of cereals and vegetable oils dominated

Öztürk stated that the grains, pulses, oilseeds industry, which has a wide product range, dominates the sector's exports with an export of 2022 billion dollars in 11, with an export of 4 billion dollars in cereal products and 2 billion dollars in animal and vegetable oils. summarized; “Milling products exported 6 billion dollars. We sweetened the mouth of the world with exports of 2 billion dollars of sugar and sugar products and 1 million dollars of cocoa products. Food preparations constituted 8 million dollars of our exports.”

Exported to 216 countries and customs areas

While Turkey was exporting grains, pulses and oilseeds to 2022 countries and bonded regions in 216, Iraq was at the top of the list with an export of 2 billion dollars. The sector's exports to Iraq increased by 3 percent compared to 2021.

With the support of the TURQUALITY Project carried out by EHBYİB in the US market, exports of cereals, pulses, oilseeds to the USA increased by 28 percent to 708 million dollars, making the USA the second most exported country.

In the sector's exports, Syria ranked third with 562 million dollars, Libya fourth with 365 million dollars and Yemen fifth with 322 million dollars.

Aegean exporters wrote epic in North Africa

When the 2022 exports of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters' Association are analyzed on the basis of countries; It turned out that they wrote epics in the North African market.

In the list of 153 countries and customs zones to which EHBYİB members export; While Libya was at the top with an export of 119 million dollars, Aegean exporters succeeded in increasing their grain, pulses and oilseed exports to Libya by 2022 percent in 88.

Algeria followed Libya with an export growth rate of 43 percent and an export performance of 113 million dollars. Tunisia, another North African country, followed the third step of the summit with a record increase of 156 percent and exports of 86 million dollars.

India, the biggest buyer of white poppy, of which Turkey is the world leader in production and exports, became the fourth country to which EHBYİB members export the most, with a demand of 2022 million dollars in 86. Egypt took the fifth place in the list with a demand of 60 million dollars. Egypt attracted attention with a 560 percent increase in demand.

Vegetable oil sector accounted for 100 dollars of every $58 export from the Aegean.

President Öztürk, who also announced the 2022 export scorecard of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters' Association on the basis of sectors, said, “Our vegetable oil exporters made the biggest contribution to the exports of our Union in 2022, with an increase of 51 percent, amounting to 580 million dollars. In other words, out of every $2022 export we made in 100, our vegetable oil exporters made 58 dollars. Our meals and Animal Feed exports amounted to 67 million dollars with an increase of 123 percent, our exports of oil seeds amounted to 140 million dollars with an increase of 98 percent, our chocolate confectionery exports amounted to 3 million dollars with an increase of 48 percent, and food preparations amounted to 25 million dollars with an increase of 41 percent.” he said.

Ozturk; “We made a bright start to 2023”

Underlining that they made a bright start to 2023 as the cereals, pulses and oilseeds sector, Chairman Öztürk continued his words as follows; “In January, our industry's exports across Turkey increased by 19 percent from $3 million to $829 million. Our exports from our Union increased by 989 percent from 20 million dollars to 63 million dollars. While Iraq maintained its top position in our sector with 76 million dollars of exports across Turkey, our exports to the Russian Federation increased by 164 percent from 161 million dollars to 17 million dollars. The Russian Federation gives the impression that it will be one of the markets where our industry will gain strength in 44. EHBYİB statistics also support this impression. In January 2023, the country to which we export the most from the Aegean Region was the Russian Federation, with an increase of 2023 percent and an amount of 1.488 million dollars. Algeria followed Russia with 9 million dollars of exports. While Djibouti and Libya were ranked after Algeria with 7 million dollars of exports each, Germany found itself among the top 5 countries with an increase of 210 percent and an export of 4 million dollars.
