Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) took another step to solve the taxi problem. With the decision taken at UKOME, the surplus of 1803 minibuses will turn into 322 minibuses. Transporters who want to convert their vehicle into a taxi will be able to apply as of Monday, January 16, 2023.
The deadline for the minibuses on the lines where the notary drawing will be made is 17 February 2023. The application deadline for minibuses and Taxi Dolmuses on the lines where the entire line is converted (no notary drawing is required) will be March 1, 2023.
Applications will be received from the service units of the IMM Public Transportation Services Directorate in Bakırköy and Kartal.

After the completion of the 30-day application process; On the lines where more applications are received than the number of vehicles to be converted into taxis, lots will be drawn in the presence of a notary public. In case of less or equal applications than the number of vehicles to be converted, all applicants will be eligible for taxi conversion without the need for a lottery. Taxis were selected from large-capacity 8+1 panel vans. In the new taxis, whose smart beacons are connected to the taximeter, problems such as 'selecting passengers, not picking up passengers' disappear. In addition, the safety of the driver and the citizen is given priority with the SOS phrase and the panic button. While there is a taxi camera system, mobile applications can also be used. In the new taxis, taxi plates written in “braille alphabet” for visually impaired passengers and suitable space for wheelchair passengers are also provided.
