Izmir Port, which is connected to the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), has started to host cruise ships again. INSIGNIA, one of the touristic cruisers that have suspended their voyages since 2017, anchored in Izmir Port after 5 years. The ship, which has 400 passengers on board, is expected to make a significant contribution to Turkish tourism.

Izmir Port, one of Turkey's important export ports, hosted approximately 2004 thousand tourists with 2012 ships in 289 within the framework of cruise tourism that started in 550. In Izmir Port, which also received the 'Leading Cruiser Destination' award within the scope of the world travel awards, voyages have decreased since 2016 and stopped completely in 2017. Izmir Port, which was opened to cruise tourism after the negotiations, hosted the cruise ship INSIGNIA, which had 5 tourists on it, on April 14, 2022, after 400 years.

The ship, which was welcomed with an official ceremony attended by the İzmir Governorship, Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, İzmir Chamber of Commerce, İzmir Chamber of Shipping, anchored in İzmir Port. Foreign guests, who will shop during the day and visit the historical and touristic places of Izmir, will leave Izmir in the evening.

While it has been learned that a total of 2022 ships have been put into the program in 34, it is expected that the ships that will dock at Izmir Port with thousands of passengers will make a significant contribution to Turkish tourism. In addition, it was stated that negotiations are continuing for the launch of cruise voyages between İzmir and Lesbos Island.
