The Phaselis Tunnel, which will ease the transportation of the tourism capital Antalya, was put into service with a ceremony held on Saturday, April 16. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and General Director of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, as well as Ministers, deputies, bureaucrats and citizens attended the opening ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via video conference.

It has become easy and safe to reach Antalya's districts.

Wishing the Phaselis Tunnel to be beneficial for Antalya and our country, President Erdoğan said that the tunnel on the Mediterranean Coastal Road will provide great convenience in transportation with the western districts of Antalya. Stating that thus, the connection of districts such as Demre, Finike, Kumluca, Kemer, Kaş and Kalkan with Antalya city center will become faster and safer, Erdoğan emphasized that the products originating from this region, which is one of the most important vegetable growing centers of our country, can easily reach other cities.

Thanks to the tunnel, 31 million lira will be saved

Noting that the tunnel will save our country 31 million liras annually with only time and fuel savings, Erdoğan emphasized that a reduction of 1.800 tons will be achieved in carbon emissions. Erdoğan continued his speech as follows: “Thanks to Turkey's great development move in the last 20 years, each of our cities has received 5-10 times more services than what was done in the history of the Republic. Transportation is one of the areas where the most concrete and proud examples of our work and service policy can be seen. We have equipped all corners of our country with divided roads, highways, train lines and airports. With the Transportation and Communications 2053 vision that we announced in the past days, we shared with our nation the level that we will raise our country in the next 30 years in all these areas.”

“We increased the divided highway length of Antalya from 197 kilometers to 677 kilometers”

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that they have increased the length of the divided road in Antalya from 197 kilometers to 677 kilometers, and that they have built 21 tunnels with a total length of 473 thousand 20 meters and 17 bridges of 753 thousand 154 meters. Karaismailoğlu said, “In accordance with the environmental scenario we have determined in the Transport and Logistics Master Plan, when we come to 2053, we will expand our divided road network to 38 thousand 60 kilometers; We will increase our highway network to 8 thousand 325 kilometers. Our goal is for Turkey to be the leading country among the top 10 countries in the world in development.” he said.

“With the tunnel put into service, the road route will be reduced by 2 kilometers and the travel time will be shortened by 10 minutes”

Karaismailoğlu, who gave information about the Phaselis Tunnel, which was completed and put into service, said that the tunnel consists of a 305-meter-long 2×2 lane double tube. Noting that they have also completed the connection roads with the tunnel, Karaismailoğlu stated that the road route will be shortened by 2 kilometers and the travel time will be shortened by 10 minutes once the tunnel is put into service.

The tunnel will increase the transportation standard of the existing route, which has a mostly mountainous structure.

The Phaselis Tunnel, located in the western part of the Mediterranean Coastal Road, which is the East-West axis connecting Antalya to the Aegean and Central Anatolia, consists of a 1.305 m double tube. The tunnel, which will serve vehicle traffic at the standard of 2×2 lane, bituminous hot mix coated divided road, will increase the transportation standard of the existing route, which has a mostly mountainous structure, and will offer safe and comfortable transportation to our citizens.

Thanks to the tunnel, products that have an important place in the regional economy will be transported comfortably and in a short time to domestic and foreign markets.
