ABB's Waste Drug Mobilization Continues!

The "Domestic Waste Medicines Project", which was initiated with the protocol signed between Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and Ankara Chamber of Pharmacists to dispose of expired or unused medicines, continues. Waste medicines thrown into the garbage are collected and destroyed in waste medicine boxes provided by the Metropolitan Municipality.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to implement environmentally friendly projects that prioritize human health, one by one.
Taking action for the wastes that threaten public health and increase environmental pollution, the Metropolitan Municipality has started a mobilization for the disposal of drugs that have expired or are not needed within the scope of the protocol signed with the Ankara Chamber of Pharmacists. With the "Domestic Waste Medicine Collection Project", which is planned to be expanded in the capital city, the waste medicines left in the hands of the citizens are collected and destroyed in the waste medicine boxes provided by the Metropolitan Municipality.

1 TONS OF DOMESTIC WASTE PHARMACEUTICAL DISPOSAL IN 14 YEAR

With the project, it is aimed to prevent waste drugs from mixing with water and soil by being thrown away unconsciously.

Salih Demir, Head of the Waste Coordination Medical Waste of the Department of Urban Aesthetics, stated that it is necessary to raise public awareness about the collection of expired drugs accumulated in homes and gave the following information about the project:

“With our zero-waste-oriented project, we aim to ensure that household waste drugs that have completed their useful life are collected and disposed of in licensed facilities without causing large-scale environmental pollution by mixing with garbage and sewage systems. In this context, we have implemented our project with 2021 volunteer pharmacies as of January 200, and a total of 14 tons of household waste drugs have been destroyed in a year, preventing the harm to the environment.”

Eczacı Arda Erman Alisbah, who pointed out that the controlled disposal of drugs through the project prevented them from being reintroduced to the market, made the following assessments:

“With this project, carried out jointly by Ankara Chamber of Pharmacists and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, it is very important to collect waste drugs in terms of public health, to prevent people from using them accidentally, to prevent them from being mixed with normal garbage and to prevent stray animals from accidentally eating them. It is also very important to dispose of waste drugs correctly. We know that the Metropolitan Municipality does this very carefully and in accordance with its rules. It would be a good practice to include more pharmacies in this scope in Ankara and even expand it as an example to other metropolitan municipalities in Turkey.”
