Indicating that the Canal Istanbul Project is very important for Istanbul and the region, Arslan said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also cares about the project and follows it. Stating that many routes have been studied in the project so far, but it has been decided to conduct detailed studies on 5 routes and at this point, Arslan said, “In the Canal Istanbul Project, working on 5 routes in terms of urbanism, especially considering the forest, wetlands, agricultural areas and interacting areas. we brought it to the final stage. ” he spoke.

Arslan also stated that they are working on many alternatives regarding the financing of the project. Emphasizing that they will make a very important channel of approximately 43 kilometers and large ships can pass, Arslan underlined that 2,7 billion cubic meters of material will come out of the channel and this should be evaluated. He stated that they will fill the holes in the coal mines, create recreation areas, green the marshes again, and create artificial islands with the material to be released. Explaining that they will use the material for filling in ports, Arslan said that some of them are fertile soil that can be used in agriculture and that they will use it elsewhere. Mentioning that they have reached a certain point in the preliminary studies in the project, Arslan said, “We will carry out the final studies and tender studies within this year. This is what our president said. We work with many institutions such as Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Prime Ministry Housing Development Administration (TOKİ), Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. ” he spoke.

Arslan said that the studies have reached a certain point and that they will ensure that the projects are brought to the stage of tender. Arslan stated that scientific studies are important at this point and that they have received support from 4 University in the project.
