After Outbound Train

After the Outgoing Train: Istanbul's 1955 in Sirkeci-Halkalı The commuter train ride, which started between, ended as of 2013. The train line, which was closed due to renovation works, was replaced by the modern Marmaray project. Behind it is half a century of human stories Ark

Residents of the neighborhood sitting on the train route welcomed the closure of the line. They have hoped that they will turn into a more modern, more comfortable appearance. They began to feel the traces of the line over the years when the stations were silent. The suburban is not just a means of transportation for those who use it all the time. About 50 has created a culture since its first expedition that started years ago in Istanbul. Passengers who meet at the same station every day at the same time, sitting in the same seat every time they board a train, uncle in a fedora reading the same newspaper, the children who jumped to the street enthusiastically every time a train arrived, the craftsmen who gave the station the name of the workplace… It was all part of the suburban culture. 'Do you miss?' each of them tells different stories. Mostly they miss the sound of the train and the crowds coming to the station.

When the renovation started, the old stations were shut down and some of them were demolished. Station underpasses are still in use. The trades on the route can no longer work as before. There is no old activity in the coffee houses.

Now they are hoping a new culture will emerge along with the more modern train line.
