The details of the "Three-Storey Great Istanbul Tunnel", which is expected to relieve Istanbul traffic, have been revealed.

The "3-Storey Grand Istanbul Tunnel" project, which will connect the rail system and the highway at the bottom of the sea, was preferred to cross the Bosphorus in one go instead of crossing twice. Instead of two separate tunnels, a single tunnel passage will be provided.

3.5 BILLION MANUFACTURER

The tunnel to be built with the latest technology is expected to reduce the vehicle load on the bridges. The "3-Storey Grand Istanbul Tunnel", which will shorten the travel time significantly with the routes it is integrated with, is expected to cost 3,5 billion dollars. The project will be done with the Build-Operate-Transfer model without using public resources. It is foreseen that 2 thousand 800 people will be employed during the construction phase of the project and 800 people will be employed during the operation phase.

The difference of the 3-storey Grand Istanbul Tunnel from the Marmaray and Eurasia tunnels will be that it allows both the passage of wheeled vehicles and the passage of railways. In this respect, the tube passage will be one of the first examples in the world, the lower and upper floors will be reserved for wheeled vehicles and the mezzanine will be reserved for the rail system.

14 MINUTES BETWEEN HASDAL AND ÜMRANİYE

The 16-meter highway line from TEM Highway Hasdal Junction to Ümraniye Çamlık Junction can be reached in just 150 minutes with the three-storey Istanbul tunnel. With the new tunnel, 14 thousand vehicles are expected to use this route per day.
With the completion of the project, 3. An axle that can be reached directly to the airport is created. With this line, a connection will be established between all main highway TEM, D-100, Northern Marmara Highway, Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Bosphorus and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridges and the 3rd Airport axis in Istanbul.

The mega tunnel will also have a road connection with the TEM, E5 and 3rd bridge. The tunnel, whose diameter will be 18.80 meters, will reach 110 meters deep on the sea surface. The length of the 3-storey section of the tunnel will be 6.5 km.

WILL BE FINISHED IN 2020

Speaking at the introductory meeting of the project, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu gave 5 years. Davutoğlu said that the planned completion date of the project is 2020.
