Water March for Peace in Bursa

Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş, Bursa Provincial Director of National Education Dr. attended the event. Ahmet Alireisoğlu, students and teachers attended.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said, “Water is civilization. Water is one of the first conditions for development. It is said that throughout history, humankind has tried to reach usable fresh water resources and has spent a lifetime for this. Because water is a very important necessity that covers every aspect of our lives. Neither we nor other living creatures can live without water. For this reason, children, you are truly valuable. Yes, you are the future of Bursa and our country, but we are trying to raise awareness in order to protect our water, save it and use it correctly. Today, you, as kindergarten and primary school students, are with us with the 'Chasing Water Drops' project we carried out together with BUSKİ and Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education. We are trying to raise awareness on this issue. Our project covers all 17 districts. Within the framework of the project, training was provided to 17 kindergarten students and 2022 primary school students in 242, and 73.226 kindergarten students and 2023 primary school students in 237 in 86.857 districts. Since the beginning of 2024, we have provided education to approximately 15 thousand kindergarten and primary school students. We believe that water saving awareness goes through water consumption awareness. If everyone saved half of what they use, considering that 3.5 million people use water, we would see what kind of a resource we would have. The United Nations declared March 22 as World Water Day. A water theme was determined with the theme of using water for peace. On the occasion of March 22 World Water Day, as Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, we are launching the 'Water Literacy Project' for peace in cooperation with BUSKİ Geothermal and Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education. We aim to inform at least 27 primary schools, 3 thousand primary school students, 300 teachers and 6 thousand parents throughout Bursa about water conservation and water literacy and to use our water resources more efficiently. We will carry out awareness activities with workshops supported by drama instructors, psychologists and dietitians in 27 different schools. In this sense, we attach importance to the proverb "A tree bends while it is young". “We aim to raise awareness among our students about water saving and to enable them to transfer this savings to their families.” said.

Bursa Provincial Director of National Education Dr. Ahmet Alireisoğlu said in his speech: “Three important values come to the fore in this walk we held with our students and teachers within the scope of World Water Day. The first is our children, who are the guarantee of our future, and the second is our water resources, which the world needs and is currently under threat. We took a walk with our water, our future and our children. Water has become more important today than ever before, and raising awareness about it and raising this awareness among new generations is extremely important for life and the future. We are doing this work to entrust this trust to them. I would like to thank our Metropolitan Mayor and everyone who contributed to the fact that together we were able to do this strongly and successfully at the provincial level.”

The march, held within the scope of the World Water Day meeting, started from İnönü Street and ended in the Hanlar District.
