Will Launch a Fully Automatic Vehicle in 2030

For this reason, MAN Truck & Bus has been working intensively on the automation of its buses for years.

The company, which aims to play a key role in shaping the urban bus mobility of the future and to offer emission-free, networked and automatic vehicles to transportation companies, relies on its collaborations and pilot projects with technology leaders such as Mobileye in this regard. MINGA is one of the leading projects that MAN Truck & Bus is involved in for work in this field.

MAN experts have been working as part of the MINGA research project since last year.

As part of the MINGA project for automated local transport in Munich, an electric city bus is being automated and tested on a real line. MAN also supports the project with an automatic and fully electric MAN Lion's City E. Within the scope of the project, pilot driving is expected to start on route 2025 in Munich in 178. After the tests, the electric bus is planned to be equipped with Automatic Driving System (ADS) with highly advanced sensors from Mobileye, a developer of autonomous driving technologies.

Jana Kirchen, Automation Product Strategy Manager at MAN Truck & Bus, said: “The key parts of the MINGA project are the development of the complex interface between the vehicle and the ADS and the integration of the systems into our electronic architecture. At this point, we benefit from the new electronic platform introduced in the 2024 model year. “The platform significantly simplifies integration thanks to its performance and efficiency.”

MAN is also working with Munich's public transport operator MVG and the University of Stuttgart to develop concepts for the technical inspection and accessibility of the vehicle. In total, around a dozen project partners from administration, research, business and industry are working together on the MINGA research project.
