Eurasia Tunnel Continues to Prove Its Success

The Eurasia Tunnel, which connects the Asian and European continents under the seabed and reduces the travel time to 5 minutes, continues to register its success.

Eurasia Tunnel, which is the first pilot project in the field of transportation in the world by successfully completing the pilot implementation process of the Blue Dot Network, which encourages sustainable infrastructure investments of the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD), in 2023; It won the ESG Project of the Year Award at Istanbul PPP (PPP) Week for its good practices in environmental, social and corporate governance and the long-term economic impact it provides to the city where it is located.

Istanbul PPP (PPP) Week, which is one of the most important events in the world in the field of Public Private Sector Cooperation (PPP), is organized with the participation of professionals from more than 50 countries. It has been organized by the Public Private Sector Cooperation Research Center since 2015 and this year is the first The Eurasia Tunnel was also deemed worthy of an award during the Istanbul PPP Week, where the Istanbul PPP Awards were launched for the first time. The ESG Project of the Year Award was presented to Eurasia Tunnel Board Member Özge Arıoğlu by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek.

EVERY STEP IN THE EURASIA TUNNEL IS TAKEN WITH THE SUSTAINABILITY MISSION

Every step of the Eurasia Tunnel, planned by taking social-environmental impacts into consideration, was taken with a sustainable world approach and corporate citizenship mission. All studies were carried out within the scope of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), which aims to investigate and minimize the impacts on the physical, natural, cultural, social and socioeconomic environment, starting from the project phase, throughout the construction and operation stages. All design and construction works carried out in the historical peninsula of Istanbul, which is registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List, were carried out taking into account UNESCO recommendations.

As you may remember, the Solar Power Plant (SPP) was recently commissioned in the Operation and Maintenance Building of the Eurasia Tunnel and the Asian Ventilation Buildings. The annual production of the SPP, designed with the optimum number of panels and high-tech inverters, meets the electricity needs of the data centers of the project. In this way, the business will provide its energy from clean sources and reduce its carbon emissions by 190 tons annually. Eurasia Tunnel, which also attaches importance to governance and transparency issues, prepared a report explaining both the detailed information about the construction and operation period performances of the project and the Public Private Sector Cooperation Model used in its construction in 2022 and shared it with the public on its website.
