Mayor Tokat Explained the Earthquake Studies in Milas

As 6 year has passed since the earthquakes that occurred on February 2023, 11, causing the death of 53 thousand 537 citizens in 1 provinces and injuring hundreds of thousands of citizens, Milas Mayor Muhammet Tokat announced the work carried out by the municipality in the earthquake region and the measures taken in Milas at the press conference he held.

Noting that the February 6 earthquakes were one of the biggest disasters in history, Mayor Tokat said, "We experienced great pain and sadness due to the earthquake." said.

A MOMENT OF RESPECTFUL AT 4.17

Stating that the Republican People's Party Milas District Presidency held a moment of silence at 4.17 when the earthquake occurred, Tokat said, “While we were standing in silence, what we experienced in the earthquake zone last year passed before our eyes like a film strip. “I wish God's mercy on all the lives we lost, and my condolences to their families and our nation.” said.

CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVE AND PRECAUTIONS ARE A MUST

Noting that a contemporary perspective and precautions are very important, Tokat said, “At this point, we have to develop a system nationally. At the same time, our state and the general administration need to do more work on this issue. We do not have the necessary mechanisms for effective work before, during and after the earthquake.” he said.

“WE REACHED THE ENTIRE EARTHQUAKE ZONE”

Mayor Tokat said, “When the earthquake happened, we immediately called the people of Milas. The people of Milas also gave very intense support. We personally went to the earthquake area and made an effort to get the aid to its place. As Milas Municipality, we reached the entire earthquake zone. In the first stage, we were in Hatay and its districts. Then we reached Osmaniye, Adana and Malatya. We established a soup kitchen in Malatya. We served meals to 2 people for approximately 2 months. We delivered the aid materials entrusted to us by the people of Milas to the provinces. We tried to be a salve to the wound there. We encountered truly painful landscapes and scenes. We don't want to experience such pain again. However, it is unrealistic to say that we do not want to experience such an earthquake again because we are an earthquake country.” He also explained the measures taken.

THE WORK IS PROGRESSING FAST

“As Milas Municipality, we are trying to program our work by feeling the reality of the earthquake.” Tokat continued his words with the following expressions: “In this sense, all the infrastructures in our municipality have been created for the Earthquake Master Plan, which can be an example for other municipalities in Turkey. The process continues. As a subheading of this study, we made a protocol with our Chamber of Civil Engineers Muğla Branch. We have completed the work carried out within the scope of the first protocol. "We are now working to prepare the second protocol."

15 THOUSAND 789 BUILDINGS WERE INSPECTED

Noting that a total of 15 thousand 789 buildings were examined in Milas city center and Beçin District within the scope of the first stage, Tokat said, “8 thousand 749 of the examined structures are reinforced concrete, 4 thousand 501 are masonry and 2 thousand 539 are of other nature. Field work was completed in 13 neighborhoods and Beçin. The process will continue with the data obtained from the field being entered into the system and reported to the Scientific Board. We have completed 70 percent of it so far. An archive is being created with these studies. 80 percent of this archive has been created. The final qualifications will be fully revealed within the framework of the work of the Scientific Board and the reports they will convey to us. This is the situation that occurred within the scope of the first stage. We will sign a protocol again within the scope of the second stage. We will examine the building stocks in our large settlements, especially our towns. The important thing is to provide this district with an earthquake master plan or disaster master plan. But this is a very important start. "At the point of progress and completion of our earthquake master plan, Milas will have obtained important data regarding its seismicity in scientific terms." he said.
