Muratpaşa Municipality's recycling project, Environmentally Friendly Neighbor Card, which forms the basis of the 'Zero Waste' project carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, started as a pilot application in 2016 neighborhoods in April 2. Following the success achieved, the project started to be implemented throughout Muratpaşa.
Last year, 2 million 242 thousand 809 kilograms of packaging waste consisting of glass, paper, plastic and metal were collected house by house with the project. District residents earned 1 million 945 thousand 817 liras in return for the waste they collected rather than throwing away. In Muratpaşa, the most collected waste type in 2023 was paper with 44 percent, followed by plastic waste with 31 percent.
The Environmentally Friendly Neighbor Card Project, implemented by Muratpaşa Municipality in 2016, has collected 23 million recyclable waste to date. District residents earned 10 million 300 thousand lira with the project that created additional income for the home economy.
