CK Energy's 'Energy Literacy' Project meets students at schools on the European Side of Istanbul in the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

According to the protocol signed between Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education and CK Energy Boğaziçi Elektrik, primary and secondary school students will be told “what electricity is, how it is produced, safe electricity use, energy efficiency, methods of energy saving at home and at school”.

Within the scope of the protocol signed by Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education Levent Yazıcı and General Manager of CK Energy Boğaziçi Elektrik Halit Bakal, Energy Literacy trainings will start on Tuesday, November 1 at schools designated as pilots across the European Side.

The results of the energy literacy trainings will be tried to be measured by monitoring the electricity bills in the 6-month periods covering the pre- and post-training periods. Special awards will be given to the 3 schools that reduce their consumption the most with the aim of supporting the motivation of children.

“It reflects on families as well as our children”

Speaking at the protocol signing ceremony, Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education Levent Yazıcı stated that they always try to inform children about issues such as climate change, geographical changes and the correct use of scarce resources, and made the following assessments:

“We also attach great importance to the efficient use of energy resources and its transformation into a life habit. In this context, any work that we can turn into behavior is valuable. While our schools and children are involved in this process, the efficient use of energy and the habit of saving children are reflected in their families. I hope that we can not leave this work with limited schooling and enlarge it even more.”

“The cheapest energy is the energy saved”

Halit Bakal, General Manager of CK Energy Boğaziçi Elektrik, also stated that the importance of efficient use of energy resources is increasing day by day in a time of energy crisis throughout the world, and said, “This year, the Energy Literacy Project carried out by CK Energy to raise awareness on this issue in all segments of society. We are very happy to meet with our children. The cheapest energy is the energy saved. Our aim is to prevent the waste of national and world resources.” said.

Stating that they aim to support the education of our children and their families for a sustainable future with the project, Bakal said, “I think that the most important factor for efficiency in energy is raising awareness. It is of great importance to educate our children at an early age in order to establish this awareness. The energy literacy project primarily aims at this.” he said.

Pointing out that since 2018, they have been trying to explain the Energy Literacy Project on almost every platform within the scope of the protocol signed with the Provincial Directorate of National Education under the auspices of the Istanbul Governorship, and continued his words as follows:

“We continued our work without slowing down during the pandemic period, and within the scope of the project, we organized a training program for efficient energy use for 25 thousand 654 teachers, who train 3 thousand students in a total of 600 districts. We are very happy to start face-to-face training in schools in the 2022-2023 Academic Year. As Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, I would like to thank you for your contribution and wish you good luck in our joint project.”
