Stating that the real estate taxes are paid in two installments, Hakan Akdoğan, the Founding President of the All Entrepreneurial Real Estate Consultants Association (TÜGEM), said, “Buildings, plots and lands within the borders of Turkey are subject to property tax. Property Tax is a wealth-based tax collected by municipalities for buildings, land and plots. Taxpayers will be able to make their second installment payments until 2 November.
Akdoğan also gave information about the real estate taxpayers and exemptions, “The taxpayer of the real estate tax is the owner of the building or land, the usufruct owner if any, and the people who save like the owner of a building or land if both are not available. Owners of a building or land in the case of shared ownership are liable in proportion to their shares. In joint ownership, the owners are jointly and severally liable for tax. Those who have no income, whose income consists only of the pension they receive from the social security institutions established by law, as well as the widows and orphans of veterans, the disabled, the martyrs, are exempt from property tax if they have the only residence within the borders of Turkey with a gross area of 200 square meters.
