Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that the agreement on the railway that will connect Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic passing through the Armenian lands should be signed.

Answering the questions of the deputies in the Armenian parliament, Pashinyan said about the railway planned to be opened in Nagorno-Karabakh, "This must be legally recorded and signed on paper."

Explaining that Armenia has also made proposals for the opening of highways to Azerbaijan and Russia, Pashinyan emphasized that they are ready to carry out work on the renewal and construction of highways if they receive a positive response from Azerbaijan.

The issue of opening transportation lines in Nagorno-Karabakh was included in the agreement reached by the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on 9 November 2020 on ending the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In the 9th article of the agreement, “The blockade on all economy and transportation connections in the region is lifted. The Republic of Armenia guarantees the safety of transportation between the western regions of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with the aim of organizing the smooth travel of people, vehicles and cargo in both directions. Control of transport is carried out by the bodies of the Border Division of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). With the agreement of the parties, the construction of new transportation routes connecting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to the western regions of Azerbaijan will be provided.
