US Delegation at the Turkish Grand National Assembly

During the meeting held at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Commission President Hulusi Akar expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and the American people when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed as a result of the crash of a cargo ship in the US state of Maryland.

They stated that they were pleased to have Rogers and his entourage in Turkey; Stating that the visit was an opportunity for both parties to express themselves face to face, Akar said, “We could not come together for a while. From now on, I hope that we will continue to exchange views and visits for the benefit of our countries, NATO, regional institutions, peace, stability and the solution of some problems in our region between Turkey and the USA. According to the news on the official website of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee of the US House of Representatives, Rogers, said that they visited Turkey as a delegation after Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Explaining that they mainly focus on issues related to security-related partnerships, Rogers said, “However, we can also learn your thoughts on how we can improve our partnership. "One of the issues I am most interested in is your views on how the Ukrainian crisis can be resolved." he said.

Answering the questions of journalists after the meeting, Hulusi Akar emphasized that it is important to hold inter-parliamentary talks after a long time.

Stating that they conveyed their problems and opinions on general and military issues to them, Akar said, “We conveyed to them our struggle against DAESH, including PKK-YPG issues. Regarding Israel, we once again conveyed to them that we have no intention against the existence of Israel, but on the other hand, the deaths of children, women and innocent people should be prevented as soon as possible. We discussed our opinions and suggestions regarding Greece and the Mediterranean with them. We stated what we did on the Azerbaijan-Armenia issue and that it was important for Armenia to accept the extended hand of peace. They made their own comments. We talked and met in a very positive and constructive manner. "We parted by agreeing to continue the talks by meeting in Turkey or the USA." he said.

A journalist asked: "Has the F-16 procurement process also been brought up?" Upon the question, Akar emphasized that this issue was also brought up in the meeting and that there was no problem regarding the F-16.

Akar said, “There is no problem here. Necessary agreements and contracts were made. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan has meetings with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
